Friends With Amenities: New York Apartment Developers Embrace ‘Co-Living’
At Frank 57 West, a new zinc-clad residential building on Manhattan’s far West Side, renters can choose a conventional one-bedroom apartment for about $3,500 a month. But for intrepid New Yorkers willing to embrace the concept of “co-living,” there is a second option: three-bedroom apartments specifically designed for roommates that can cost more than one-third less.
Stephen Glassman Commissioned to Create Monumental Artwork to Complement Bjarke Ingels' new VIA 57 West
Stephen Glassman Studio (SGStudio) today announced a commission from The Durst Organization (TDO) for a monumental outdoor sculpture for Manhattan’s new “superblock” development, 57 West, located at West 57th Street between 11th and 12th Avenues. Flows Two Ways (2016) is TDO’s first site-specific commission, and continues the organization’s enduring support of the arts. Scaling eight stories at sixty-by-sixty feet, the work will denote the main entrance to VIA 57 WEST, the torqued tetrahedral residential and mixed-use “courtscraper” that marks Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG)’s first project in the Americas. Installation will begin in March 2016 in anticipation of VIA’s spring opening.

The Durst Organization “Tops Out” FRANK 57West
The Durst Organization will top out its 10-story, mixed-use development, FRANK 57WEST, at 600 West 58th Street in Manhattan on Friday, February 5, with a traditional ceremony that celebrates the construction of the roof of the building’s highest occupied level. FRANK is part of The Durst Organization’s 57 West Development that includes the 709-unit VIA opening in the spring and the 598-unit Helena.
10-Story, 65-Unit Mixed-Use Building Tops Out at 600 West 58th Street, Hell's Kitchen
In December, YIMBY brought you a construction update on the 10-story, 65-unit mixed-use building, dubbed FRANK 57WEST, under construction at 600 West 58th Street, in Hell’s Kitchen at the corner of Eleventh Avenue. At the time, the structure was three stories in height, but now the building has officially topped out. The first four floors will contain 87,717 square feet of medical space, and 65 rental apartments will fill the top six floors.
